Misleading Price Adjustment Practices by Amazon I recently placed an order for a tall freestanding fridge (Order No. 206-8588519-2886749) that was sold and delivered by Amazon. After placing the order, I went online to check before delivery and noticed the price had dropped. Naturally, I called Amazon and spoke with a representative, who advised me to reorder the fridge at the new lower price.
However, what she failed to mention was that the essential services included in my original purchase—such as unpacking, installation, and the removal of my old faulty fridge—were not part of the new order. Interestingly, the extended warranty was still intact, but without these critical services, this was not a price decrease but effectively a price increase.
What’s frustrating is that other sellers offering the same fridge maintained their prices and included all the associated services. This makes Amazon’s approach feel like an unacceptable case of “sharp practice,” where a supposed price reduction is undermined by hidden compromises.
When I raised the issue with a second agent, he promised to escalate it to the IT department. While one agent tried to reassure me that Amazon provides the best service, this experience suggests otherwise. It feels like Amazon is disregarding the trust and loyalty of its customers.
I’m left disappointed and questioning whether Amazon truly values its customers. As for my opinion, the jury is still out.
