Autotrader might still be a top choice for car buyers, but as a private seller, my experience has been far from great. While posting an ad is simple enough, the real challenges begin afterward—dealing with abusive messages, time-wasters, scammers, and traders who agree to your price only to show up and lowball you with excuses.
Support for sellers—especially private ones—is lacking. I paid over £80 for ads that promised to stay live "until the car sells," but when the car didn’t sell, I had to pay again to relist. Even worse, I’ve had late-night calls with aggressive buyers, and Autotrader’s support was nowhere to be found. So far, I haven’t received any response from them.
I’m not sure how other private sellers handle this—there’s hardly any helpful information online. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the smooth, fair-selling experience I expected.
