To anyone reading this, I had a Cifas marker incorrectly placed against me by Starling Bank, which they removed in January 2025. In February 2025, I decided to apply for a new bank account. I applied with HSBC UK and provided the two addresses I believed would give me the best chance of approval—the ones I had lived at the longest and had the most documented history with. To my shock, just one month after the Cifas marker from Starling Bank was removed, HSBC UK applied for a new Cifas marker against me. The employee claimed I “hid” an address with adverse information, without verifying whether the previous Cifas marker was still valid. I strongly advise anyone considering banking with HSBC UK to think twice. I am now forced to challenge a Cifas marker over a simple application, and they are accusing me of concealing information about a marker I was told had been removed a month prior.
